Roberta Combs is a representational painter who lives with her family in Pitt Meadows, BC in Western Canada.
Although she paints in several mediums, the rich, buttery texture and the clean velvet color of pastels evoke an immediate response that is pure pleasure to develop. They allow simple scenes and common items to be transformed with beautiful light and delicious drama.
“Extreme light with dramatic darks are what first draw my attention to a subject that could lead to a potential painting. An abundance of challenging detail will usually entice me further. I never limit myself regarding subject. As I am a realistic painter, drawing is essential to the success of the painting so it really doesn’t matter if it is a portrait or a landscape. I simply paint what interests me”.
Roberta is a full time painter, as well as a popular instructor and juror. She has been sharing her experience through programs and workshops in Canada and the USA for more than 25 years.
Roberta is a Spilsbury Medal winner in the Federation of Canadian Artists and was invited to exhibit at Le Festival International du Pastel de Feytiat, France in 2013.
Her award winning work has been seen in International Artists Magazine, Southwest Art Magazine and she has been awarded First Place in the Pastel Journal Magazine for still life in 2014. She has exhibited in the Butler Institute of American Art, The Federation of Canadian Artists Gallery, the American Art Company, The National Arts Club Gallery in New York and locations that include Palm Springs, Los Angeles, Seattle, Toronto and Florida.
Roberta Combs has been awarded Senior Signature Status in the Federation of Canadian Artists and the Northwest Pastel Society; is a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Portrait Artists; and is a Master Pastelist of the Pastel Artists of Canada. Roberta has also been awarded Master Status Pastelist in the Pastel Society of America. She is the only Canadian to hold this distinction.
